Freehand: Liquids

Liquids provide a visually appealing way of moving the glowsticks in mid-air.

Liquids in the non-glowstick, dancing form means giving the illusion that two hands are following a path that looks very watery. The figure 8 is simply a liquid that follows a path. The inverted-figure 8 is in my opinion, a liquid version of the figure 8 that looks pleasing to the eye.

Freehand Tutorial Introduction
Written by Cynicdave

These articles are for all kinds of glowstickers at all sorts of different skill levels. These articles will focus mainly on technicals and foundations and will teach nothing about creativity and artistry. Some of the best glowstickers cannot do anything "difficult", but you'll still be blown away by their artistry.

In any case, the following skills should be considered as foundation skills. Some, such as liquids, are a whole field of dancing and translates to dancing without glowsticks as well.

These skills are mainly from the iloveraving.com glowstickers who helped define glowsticking in california (and to my knowledge, first ever). Many of these skills, such as kicking, stalling, and other advanced forms, were popularized and most likely invented by iloveraving.com glowstickers (circa 1998-). That doesn't mean that ILR people invented them all of them necessarily, but it does mean that these articles were written with the biggest influence from ILR glowstickers.

Figure 8 Tutorial
Written by Windsen Pan
Wednesday, 20 February 2008 11:10

The figure 8 is the most basic yet widely executed move in the art of freehand glowsticking. However, many new glowstickers find the move difficult to learn. In actuality, the figure 8 is not difficult at all. It only seems this way because there exists so many different forms of the move.

To help glowstickers better understand the concept and technique of the figure 8, I have created a set of instructional videos that demonstrate the basics. Keep in mind that the figure 8 is not limited to what is demonstrated in the videos. Glowsticking offers endless possibilities in terms of what you can do with basic techniques. Learn the movements from video then apply your knowledge of the technique to create your own style of the 8.
